Koninklijke Oosterberg continues with reduction the of the corporate CO2 footprint

Koninklijke Oosterberg considers sustainability and CO2-aware entrepreneurship to be of paramount importance. Our participation in the CO2 Performance Ladder and an achievement of level 3 certification is therefore a logical step in that direction. By continuously applying more reduction measures, we aim to further lower our corporate CO2 emissions. But what exactly do we do? And what are the effects of this?
We calculated how high our CO2 emissions were in the first six months of this year. We looked at our offices, our branches and the fuel consumption of our road transport. Those emissions amounted to a total of 1493.6 tons of CO2.
Our goal
We had set ourselves the goal of halving our emissions by 50% in 2021 compared to 2016, related to turnover. We amply achieved that objective. The turnover of our organization has risen sharply in recent years, but our CO2 emissions have nevertheless fallen relatively sharply, even in absolute terms our CO2 emissions have fallen despite the growth in turnover.
This is an achievement that we are proud of, but we continue to challenge ourselves. That is why we have tightened up the target: Oosterberg wants to reduce CO2 by 57% in 2024 compared to 2016 within scope 1, 2 and business travel, related to turnover.
How do we reduce our carbon footprint?
80% of our carbon footprint is caused by the diesel consumption of our trucks. That is why we are very active in this particular area. For example, our own Oosterberg electric vans are already driving in Utrecht and where possible we exchange petrol or diesel cars for electric variants.
We are also investigating the use of electric trucks and the possibility of using HVO as an alternative to diesel. HVO stands for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is fossil-free and renewable. We are also tightening up our planning and efficiency of transports. Finally, we are investigating options for using less gas.
